From a married heterosexual female

I don't understand why people are against the legal and civil union of gays. 

Do they think they are better than gays? Do they think gays are so below them that they don't deserve the same rights us heterosexuals have?

How does legalizing gay marriage hurt them or even affect their world? Are they worried about "ruining" the "sanctity of marriage"? I think us heterosexuals already did a fine job of that. Do they want to keep "marriage" as a religious term? Fine. Then the government can call it something else, but have it legally mean the same thing.

I always try to see the other side of issues... you know, take a walk in someone else's shoes. But I just cannot come up with one good logical reason why anyone would be against legalizing gay marriage. If anyone has one, please let me know.
